Question: What are the recommended rules of thumb for placement of a microwave in a kitchen?
Answer: The recommendation for the ideal location is where the bottom of the microwave is placed 3” below the primary user’s shoulder height; at least 15” above the floor, but no more than 54” above the floor. This range allows the microwave to be placed under the counter, on the counter or in an upper cabinet. Another recommendation is that there be at least a 15” landing area above, below or adjacent to the handle side of the oven. In the end, it generally comes down to where the primary user is most comfortable with the location.
