Question: What is the height requirement for an ADA toilet and how does that vary from a standard toilet?
Answer: The standard toilets used to be 14” but some of the newer ones can be as high as 16”. The requirements for ADA toilet are between 17” and 19”. The right height toilet can make a huge difference in your comfort level if you have sore knees or other physical problems. If you are replacing your toilet you may want to check out the height that is most comfortable for you. Sit on the toilet in the show room if possible and see if it is right for you. If you are designing a new space you might want to place the toilet where you can have a grab bar close which lets you use your arms to help get up. This can make life a lot easier.
