Question: I have wood windows and the finish at the bottom of the sashes shows discoloration and wear. Do I need to be concerned with this?
Answer: When the temperature changes your windows will get some condensation moisture on them and it drains to the bottom of the sash and the window seals. The best way to stay on top of this is to install an additional coat of varnish every couple of years. If you have let it deteriorate to where it is discolored then you can use a fine sand paper and sand the surface to remove the damaged finish. Then just stain and varnish the area. If you don’t address this you will have to live with the unsightly discoloration and eventually the sash and seal will need to be replaced.
