Question: My house doesn’t have any ventilation in the soffits. Is it possible to add this after the house is built?
Answer: Yes, you can remove the existing unvented soffit and replace it with vented soffit. This is a rather simple process and there are many products on the market which you can use to replace the old soffit. You must make sure that the air that comes into the soffit area can flow to ventilation which is high on the roof. The best flow is created with equal amounts of ventilation coming from low and high roof areas. If the insulation is stopping air from flowing from the soffits to the high roof venting space then you can remove enough of this insulation to provide space to install baffles which create a space for the air to flow. Proper ventilation will make your home more comfortable and help your roof to last longer.
