Question: Why do people use wood trusses instead of common rafters for roof framing?
Answer: The primary reasons to use trusses are that wood trusses save money, lumber, time and are extremely easy to install. Trusses are less expensive than common rafters because they use smaller and shorter lengths of lumber to accomplish the same task. Since they are a single unit, trusses usually are installed much faster than common rafters. Another benefit is that trusses can be made in a wide variety of shapes which allows us to create cathedral ceilings and attic storage spaces at low costs. Trusses are designed to span a large distance and transmit all the weight to the two exterior walls they rest on. This makes it possible to place the interior walls anywhere you want. In the future if you want to remove the interior wall it is much easier. Trusses are a very good choice for your next construction project.
