Question: I noticed on your projects you always use plywood sheathing but most other contractors use OSB sheathing. I also see that OSB costs less so why do you use plywood?
Answer: I use plywood on my projects because I believe it provides a stronger and more stable sheathing. Most people who would prefer the OSB also have a tendency to pick less expensive products in other applications. I don’t try to be the least expensive contractor but strive to provide the best finished product. I have worked with both products and I just feel so much more comfortable with the plywood.
Georgia Pacific did a performance comparison of plywood and OSB which showed that plywood will outperform OSB in nail and screw holding ability, panel stiffness, long term sag, and lack of swelling when exposed to moisture.
