Question: We are thinking about installing ceramic tile in our kitchen and would like to know what the disadvantages of this as a flooring material are?
Answer: Ceramic floors are beautiful and practical but there are a few disadvantages. Ceramic tiles are brittle and can crack or chip. These floors are very hard and thus are not comfortable to stand on for long periods. Ceramic floors can be quite cold in the winter. The grout between these tiles needs maintenance and can crack and stain. Ceramic tile can become slippery and if you drop items on the tile they can break.
